How Performance Anxiety Became My Catalyst For Change
I used to believe that music performance anxiety was something I would always struggle with. I thought it was just part of being a professional. However, I was determined not to let it ruin my passion and my livelihood, so I searched for a solution. I tried hypnotherapy and it was nothing short of transformational. I was so inspired that I became a hypnotherapist to help musicians like you.
I now know that change is possible - not just for myself but for others too. My clients show me this continuously. Recognising you need help with music performance anxiety takes strength and courage. I share my personal experience not only to show you I've been there too, but I've come out of the other side smiling. I know you can too.
My Story
It was an insidious feeling which grew alongside my career. At first, it didn't give much away, but with time, its ugly edges started intruding into my performances. Hidden behind my smile and professional persona, the uncomfortable feeling of self-doubt routinely pervaded my experience.

It was a frustrating paradox I couldn't predict. Sometimes nerves pushed me to play my absolute best. Other times they clipped my wings and held me back. With little freedom to express myself, it felt as if the anxiety was throttling me with its bare hands as I fought not to lose complete control. The feeling in those moments was indescribable. The aftermath was an unshakable feeling of humiliation and deep disappointment in myself.

Although performance anxiety never stopped me reaching the top of my profession, I had become an expert at hiding how I was feeling. To those outside, I mostly appeared composed, in control and professional - no matter what pressure was placed on me. But inside, my feelings were eating me up and I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the lid on for much longer.

"I had become an expert at hiding how I was feeling."

The Power Of Hypnosis For Musicians
Determined not to let self-doubt continue to defeat me, I worked with a hypnotherapist who opened my eyes to huge change. In awe at how much he helped transform my life, I felt called to do the same for other musicians. After qualifying as a hypnotherapist, my mission began. I've since helped countless musicians free themselves from performance anxiety.

About Me
At a young age, I found myself immersed in my dad's old vinyls of Beethoven piano sonatas - completely mesmerised by their phenomenal sound world. I developed a burgeoning passion, but no piano at home, and no chance of my parents affording lessons. One Christmas, I was gifted a tiny Casio keyboard complete with a teach-it-yourself book. I was in heaven. I totally immersed myself in deciphering how to read music, then teaching myself to play, improvise and compose. At 10, I jumped at the opportunity for subsidised double bass lessons through my county council. The bass was big, deep and resonant, and I fell in love with it.
From the humblest of beginnings, I went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and The Juilliard School. I've since enjoyed a successful orchestral career performing with world-renowned orchestras and ensembles on many of the greatest stages, as well as performing solo piano in venues across London and teaching piano and bass.
After qualifying as a hypnotherapist, I was so inspired by how much I could help others I decided to pursue it as a second career. I have since led performance workshops and masterclasses in musical institutions across the UK, US and Europe. I've piloted my own piano performance retreat, and I'm currently writing a book, 'The Fearless Musician.' I work one-to-one with world-class musicians globally online.
