Christina Cooper pianist and hypnotherapist for musicians

Hi, I'm Christina.

My clients often say to me "You know what it's like. You've been there." When it comes to music performance anxiety, it means a lot when someone understands your world.

I know how debilitating it is to step on the stage with fear and not know where to turn. I used to believe I would always struggle - just a part of being a professional. But these weren't 'healthy' nerves. There's nothing healthy about regularly feeling humiliated, ashamed, and deeply disappointed with yourself.

Determined not to let it ruin my passion and livelihood, I went on a mission to find a solution. There weren't many places I could turn to and most advice I found was generic and ineffective.

That was...until I discovered the magic of hypnotherapyWorking with a hypnotherapist on my performance anxiety was nothing short of transformational. When I saw the results, I wanted to help others too. I was so inspired I became a hypnotherapist for musicians. I haven't looked back since.

Using the power of hypnotherapy, my clients consistently transform even the most overwhelming nerves into flow - and that means so can you (no matter what the little voice inside your head tells you).

Let me back-track a little...

One Christmas, I was gifted a tiny Casio keyboard and 'teach-it-yourself' book. This quickly became my 7-year old heaven. I totally immersed myself in deciphering how to read music, then teaching myself to play, improvise and compose.

A few years later, I jumped at the opportunity to learn the double bass. It was big, deep and resonant, and I fell in love with it.

Performing felt amazing - I was completely in my element and never phased by nerves. I was unstoppable.

At 16, I achieved a coveted place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, then got accepted at the Royal Academy of Music and The Juilliard School. It was all going swimmingly.

But when I embarked on my career, suddenly...boom!

Performance anxiety struck.

It was an insidious feeling which grew alongside my career. At first, it didn't give much away, but with time, its ugly edges started intruding into my performances.

Hidden behind my smile and professional persona, the uncomfortable feeling of self-doubt routinely pervaded my experience.

A frustrating paradox I couldn't predict: sometimes nerves pushed me to play my absolute best. Other times they clipped my wings and held me back.

With little freedom to express myself, the anxiety throttled me with its bare hands. I fought not to lose complete control.

The feeling in those moments was indescribable. The aftermath was an unshakable feeling of humiliation and deep disappointment in myself.

Although performance anxiety never stole my long-term success, I became expert at hiding how I was feeling. To those outside I mostly appeared composed, in control and professional - no matter what pressure was placed on me.

But inside, my feelings were eating me up and I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the lid on for much longer.

Hypnotherapy became my life-saver. Without it, I might have given up on my dream.

After qualifying as a hypnotherapist in 2017, I made it my  mission to share this work far and wide with those who most need it. I've helped save a fair few dreams since then. Maybe yours will be next?
